Patio Projects that Add Curb Appeal

If you’re looking to add some quick and easy curb appeal to your home then consider adding or updating your patio.  Simple things like walkways, a little bit of landscaping or a canopy is an inexpensive way to improve the outdoor appearance of your home.  You might be thinking that you don’t need to improve your patio after all it’s in the backyard, and who is going to see it.  You’ll have a beautiful outdoor space that you can take advantage of and if you’re planning to sell your home buyers are more likely to make an offer if the yard looks good.  Here are some simple patio projects that add curb appeal to your home.

Add Some Plants

First impressions are everything when you’re trying to sell or rent a house.  Brightly colored flowers and well maintained landscaping draw attention to your home.  If you already have flowers add some rocks or wood chips to brighten up the plant beds.  Well maintained landscaping creates an impression that the home is well maintained.  If you don’t have a green thumb, you’re not alone, get in a landscaper to lay out the beds for you.  You can plant flowers that are colorful and beautiful but still low maintenance.

The Walkway

Having a paved or interlocking stone walkway from the backdoor to the patio are gives your backyard an air of elegance.  There are a variety of stones you can use in different color schemes that can brighten up the pathway.  It’s also not as expensive as you think, depending on how long you need the pathway  to be you may just be able to get away with a couple of stones.

Canopy

Canopies can be a fantastic addition to your patio bringing shade to your patio and keeping you cool during the summer months.  A canopy can be anything from a simple canvas on a pole to an intricate architectural feature.  You can create a canopy with four simple poles and a sheet of canvas as a covering.  It can be done cheaply and it looks great.

Fire Pits

Imagine relaxing on your patio after a long day with a cool drink, some friends and an open fire.  This is a perfect addition to your patio, choose a spot in the backyard where you can put a two foot deep hole.  Brick or stones can be used to line the hole making your fire pit safe.  Use more bricks or stone around the rim for some added protection.  Pack the cracks in the stone with dirt or between the bricks.  Add kindling and marshmallows and you’re ready to enjoy.  Here’s a video showing you how to build a fire pit.

These are fairly simple fixes to make your home look beautiful.  Keep in mind that your back yard needs just as much love as the front yard.
