a) Bytowne Benefit Screening
Pray the Devil Back to Hell, 72 min. USA 2008
Sept. 17, 2009 - 7:00 PM - Tickets $10, Bytowne Cinema, 325 Rideau Street
Documentary Feature to benefit WIAM’s One World Film Festival and also in support of the UN’s International Day of Peace and The September Global Peace Tour

World Inter-Action Mondiale is proud to screen Pray the Devil Back to Hell - an extraordinary documentary that chronicles the remarkable story of a courageous group of Liberian women who came together to end a bloody civil war and bring peace to their shattered country.
Thousands of women - ordinary mothers, grandmothers, aunts and daughters, both Christian and Muslim - came together to pray for peace and then staged a silent protest outside of the Presidential Palace. Armed only with white T-shirts and the courage of their convictions, they took on the warlords and nonviolently forced a resolution during the stalled peace talks.
A story of sacrifice, unity and transcendence, Pray the Devil Back to Hell honors the strength and perseverance of the women of Liberia. Inspiring, uplifting, and most of all motivating, it is a compelling testimony of how grassroots activism can alter the history of nations.
Emmy winning, Academy Award nominated director Gini Reticker brilliantly reconstructs this struggle for peace through interviews, archival footage and striking images of contemporary Liberia. Pray the Devil Back to Hell is compelling testimony to the potential of women worldwide to alter the history of nations.
“Uplifting, disheartening, inspiring, enraging -- the mind reels while watching the documentary Pray the Devil Back to Hell.” - Manohla Dargis / NY Times
“One of the truly heartening international political stories of recent years.” - Ken Turan / LA Times
